EXERCISES IN SPIRITUAL PURSUITS
Looking for an alternative to your exercise routine?
Something that will stretch your mind, body and soul?
Look no further.
Noll Daniel's Urban Yoga
Just entering this classroom is an experience. The lights are dim, candles flicker around the room and a vase of fresh flowers sits next to the teacher.
The 90-minute class developed by Noll Daniel combines ancient Eastern science with modern Western fitness techniques.
The participant moves through a series of yoga postures, breathing techniques and more challenging urban exercises that include sit-ups and
push-ups. The background of new age, classical and jazzy music provides an energetic yet soothing balance. Daniel, who weaves in quotes from new age literature and visualizations meant to relax the body
and mind, takes his inspiration from the late Billy Porter, the West Coast yoga "guru".
"I found Porter's humor, lightness and accessibility to yoga was a nonthreatening way to get fit,: says Daniel, who
took up the discipline because teaching aerobics was "killing" him. The class that Daniel has designed incorporates both meditation and strengthening, balance and toning postures.
The promise: a toned, stress-free body that moves with more ease and grace.
